About Me

Melinda Holm

I have recently relocated to Santa Barbara from the Bay Area where I taught piano and general music classes.  I am a classically trained pianist, so my first love is the classical repertoire. I also, however, love teaching jazz pieces, rag time, blues and other popular styles.  We are fortunate in this era to have such a wealth of material available and I spend time finding music that will excite and motivate each student.

Studying music is a wonderful exploration and I love sharing that world with students.  In my studio students will find a safe, encouraging and supportive environment.  My goal is to have my students fall in love with the piano and play it for the rest of their life!

I have a Bachelors Degree in Child Development/Education with a minor in Music from Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo.  I also have 10 years of classical piano instruction at Whittier College under Robert McSparren. Since then I have continued my musical growth through course work and certification in Orff.  I have been able to use many of the principals of the Orff philosophy in my piano instruction.  I am currently a member of the Contra Costa Performing Arts Society.

My teaching experience includes 14 years of elementary school music in public and private schools, integrating choral music and Orff. Most recently I completed 12 years with my piano studio in Walnut Creek with an average of 20 plus students.
